Social Impact

In alignment with UN SDGs, Universitas Indonesia (UI) aims to transform society for the better, be it within the scope of its own campus or beyond. UI is committed to ensuring students have a great experience under their care and propelling them into strong careers upon graduation. More than just a place to study or a stepping stone to a professional career, Universitas Indonesia ensures an atmosphere of reduced inequalities through non-discriminatory policies; a learning environment that continuously strives to be better for students and society at large through global partnerships; along with the health and wellbeing of staff, students, and more through accessible healthcare, disseminations, and research.

UI is committed to fostering a welcoming and equitable environment for all members of our community. On campus, UI ensures this through our equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) policies. Through these policies, we prioritize, respect, and support individuals regardless of their background, identity, or characteristics. We strive to ensure that every student, faculty, and staff member feels valued and empowered to contribute fully to our educational mission. By embracing equality, diversity, and inclusion, we not only enrich our learning environment but also strengthen the fabric of our educational institution, promoting fairness and opportunity for all. These policies are implemented throughout the faculties and schools at UI.

UI’s policies and bylaws are based on nine values that we uphold as guidelines for any and all campus activities. Maintaining these values is of utmost importance because they form the foundation for our community to excel in education and make positive contributions to society. Universitas Indonesia’s nine core values and our efforts in implementing them can be seen in our following policies.

  1. UI Rectoral Decree No. 2719/SK/R/2018 on Determination of Key Behavior Indicators of Cultural Values;
  2. UI Rectoral Decree No. 1179/SK/R/UI/2023 on Survey Team for the Implementation of University of Indonesia Values in 2023; and
  3. Book of the 9 UI’s Values

Some faculties have also created guidelines based on UI’s nine values. Among others are the Faculty of Medicine’s Faculty Bylaws and the Vocational Education Program’s Value Guidelines for Students, for Staff, and for Lecturers

UI also upholds EDI policies that protect against discrimination based on characteristics such as age, gender, disability, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, refugee or asylum seeker status, as well as pregnancy and maternity as can be seen in the following.

  1. UI Rectoral Decree No. 33 on Human Resource Management
  2. UI Rectoral Decree No. 4 on Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct
  3. UI Rectoral Decree No. 5 on Guidelines for Resolving Violations of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct

Disability Support

In UI, accessibility and accommodations on campus are overseen by Directorate of Operations, Facility Maintenance, and Asset Management and Directorate of Campus Welfare. As mentioned, UI’s EDI policies include ensuring the needs of disabled members of UI’s community are met, as can be seen in UI Rectoral Decree No. 2816/SK/R/UI/2017 on Technical Guidelines for Facilities and Accessibility for People with Disabilities. UI firmly believes that no disability should be a hindrance in pursuing a higher education and a better future which is why we strive to provide proper accommodations and services for our students and staff.

Accessible buildings can be found all throughout our campus, complete with wheelchairs, priority parking, ramps and wheelchair lanes, elevators, accessible bathrooms, and other assistive technologies. These specialized accommodations also extend to outdoor areas on campus including bus stops, equipped with guided paths and disability-friendly pedestrian access. They can also be found throughout all UI’s faculties and schools. Other than physical accommodations, UI also provides mentoring and specialized support services. On a campus-wide level, UI offers free mental healthcare through Makara UI Satellite Clinic.
