In alignment with UN SDGs, Universitas Indonesia (UI) aims to transform society for the better, be it within the scope of its own campus or beyond. UI is committed to ensuring students have a great experience under their care and propelling them into strong careers upon graduation. More than just a place to study or a stepping stone to a professional career, Universitas Indonesia ensures an atmosphere of reduced inequalities through non-discriminatory policies; a learning environment that continuously strives to be better for students and society at large through global partnerships; along with the health and wellbeing of staff, students, and more through accessible healthcare, disseminations, and research.
UI encourages its community of researchers, staff, alumni, and students to contribute their academic expertise toward benefiting society, prioritizing community impact over profit. UI’s Directorate of Community Engagement and Social Innovation (DPIS) plays a key role in shaping and managing community outreach initiatives, such as educational seminars, workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns. DPIS also supports scholars conducting research-based community projects, fosters collaborations with external partners, and organizes essential services like free healthcare. UI is also involved in providing access to online learning not only for UI students, but for the general public. UI does this through Open Videos Universitas Indonesia (OVIS UI) under the Directorate of Digital Education Development. Content on OVIS UI covers a large variety of educational topics aiming to fulfill UI’s role as an educational institution by making education more accessible.
Individual faculties and schools also take the lead in organizing their own outreach activities, tailored to their areas of focus. For instance, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences host seminars promoting health, education, and sustainable practices. The Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Public Health contribute through community service programs offering free health check-ups and spreading vital health information. The Faculty of Law provides free legal education for the public, while the Faculty of Administrative Science delivers free financial literacy training. Additionally, the School of Environmental Science and the School of Strategic and Global Studies conduct workshops to promote environmental sustainability and conservation practices.
Through these collaborative efforts, UI integrates academic knowledge with community service, fostering a culture of social responsibility and ensuring a lasting positive impact on the local community. This multifaceted approach underscores the university’s dedication to sustainability and societal well-being.
