Sustainability at Universitas Indonesia

Being Excellent and Impactful in Sustainability

Universitas Indonesia is highly focused on integrating sustainability into core processes in education, research, and governance

Our Commitments and Initiatives

Universitas Indonesia (UI) is deeply committed to embedding sustainability into every dimension of our role as a higher education institution. This commitment is in the way we shape our culture, policies, and practices.

In education, we integrate sustainability principles into curricula across disciplines, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and values needed to address global challenges. We also ensure our learning does not end in class by ensuring our researchers, lecturers, and students alike contribute meaningfully to society through community service. In research, we prioritize projects that advance solutions for climate change, renewable energy, sustainable transport, and social equity, positioning UI as a leader in generating knowledge that benefits both Indonesia and the world. In operations, we implement sustainable campus practices, ranging from energy efficiency to responsible waste management to green infrastructure, so that our physical environment reflects the values we teach and research.

Through these initiatives, Universitas Indonesia strives to be a model of sustainability in higher education, demonstrating that universities can play a transformative role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering a greener, more inclusive future.
