In alignment with UN SDGs, Universitas Indonesia (UI) aims to transform society for the better, be it within the scope of its own campus or beyond. UI is committed to ensuring students have a great experience under their care and propelling them into strong careers upon graduation. More than just a place to study or a stepping stone to a professional career, Universitas Indonesia ensures an atmosphere of reduced inequalities through non-discriminatory policies; a learning environment that continuously strives to be better for students and society at large through global partnerships; along with the health and wellbeing of staff, students, and more through accessible healthcare, disseminations, and research.
UI provides extensive healthcare services through our two Makara Satellite Clinics located on the Depok and Salemba campuses. These clinics offer comprehensive, high-quality care funded by national health insurance and the university budget. New students undergo detailed health screenings to detect any physical or mental health conditions or potential disabilities early. These free health screenings are also extended to our staff and surrounding community. In addition to treatment, our clinics also serve as a hub for campus health promotion and play a key role in preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative efforts to improve the campus community’s well-being.
Our clinics provide free mental health services where both students and staff can access free professional psychological services. UI also conducts programs to promote early detection of mental health issues. Peer Counselors and Health Educators, as part of the university’s community empowerment initiative, provide education and support to prevent mental health challenges and foster overall wellness. Activities in this program include mental health workshops, faculty counselor training, and seminars to build awareness and resilience.
Our clinics also provide reproductive healthcare, offering safe sex counseling and monitoring sexual risk behaviors during new student health checks. Through the national insurance scheme, we provide free services such as pregnancy check-ups, ultrasounds, and family planning advice. Recognizing growing demand, UI has extended clinic hours in 2024, offering services Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. By combining treatment, prevention, and health education, UI’s clinics contribute significantly to the well-being and empowerment of the academic community.
UI places high priority on ensuring the availability of healthy and affordable food options for everyone on campus. This commitment aligns with UI Rectoral Decree No. 57 of 2017, which highlights the university’s objectives to establish contamination-free canteens that offer reasonably priced meals. UI’s initiatives aim to foster a healthier campus environment while promoting equitable access to nutritious food choices for students, staff, and visitors alike.
UI’s Directorate of Campus Welfare plays a pivotal role in realizing these goals by conducting regular educational sessions for food handlers on proper hygiene and sanitation practices. Additionally, routine inspections are carried out to verify compliance with hygiene and sanitation standards, ensuring that the food and beverages provided on campus meet the safety criteria. The same process is applied to new canteen tenants, maintaining consistent quality across all food vendors.
UI has also implemented a “Canteen-Worthy” certification program to recognize and endorse vendors who meet the university’s strict hygiene, sanitation, and health, safety, security, and environment requirements for food and beverage management. This certification acts as an assurance for consumers, reflecting the vendors’ commitment to providing safe and healthy meals.
Each faculty that operates its own canteen adheres to these guidelines, offering an extensive array of meal options designed to accommodate the dietary needs and preferences of both staff and students. These include vegetarian choices, ensuring that the diverse campus community has access to balanced and nourishing meals. By fostering a culture of health and sustainability, we underscore our dedication to enhancing the well-being of our community through our food programs.
