Our Environmental Impact through the Years
In 2023,
Universitas Indonesia’s initiatives focused on advancing sustainability through campus-wide policies such as energy and water conservation, green spaces, and restrictions on hazardous materials, while actively engaging students in awareness campaigns, research, and community programs. UI also reported carbon emissions (by UI GreenMetric standards), invested in renewable energy, and committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
In addition, UI integrated sustainability into education by offering accredited environmental courses across faculties and guiding students toward official qualifications, while our research centers provide full-time expertise, and enrich undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with cutting-edge environmental knowledge.
In 2024,
Universitas Indonesia significantly expanded our sustainability agenda by updating campus-wide policies, launching the UI Institute for Net Zero Initiative (UI-NZI) with advanced laboratories, and strengthening faculty-level decrees. Compared to 2023, UI placed greater emphasis on literacy assessments, sustainability training, and student-led community projects, while continuing to report emissions and expand our investments in renewable energy on campus.
In 2025,
Universitas Indonesia sharpened our environmental impact strategy by embedding sustainability more deeply into campus operations, education, and research. We advanced carbon monitoring in accordance with the GHG Protocol, expanded renewable energy use, and strengthened waste and water management systems, while also rolling out new student-driven initiatives that connected ecological action with community engagement.
At the academic level, sustainability literacy assessments are being standardized across faculties, accredited courses and MOOCs were broadened to align with professional qualifications, and research centers intensified collaboration across disciplines. These efforts marked a clear progression from 2024, moving from policy expansion and infrastructure development toward measurable outcomes in education, research integration, and community-led environmental stewardship.
In 2026,
Universitas Indonesia continues to advance environmental sustainability on campus.
