Courses on Environmental Science and Sustainability
At Universitas Indonesia (UI), climate and environmental literacy is recognized as an increasingly vital priority. UI offers courses with curricula that emphasize or relate to environmental science and sustainability, with several faculties providing classes that carry transferable, officially recognized credits.

In addition to courses directly relating to sustainability and environmental science, many study programs in UI have also incorporated sustainability into their curricula. For example, students majoring in Law outside of the Environmental and Natural Resources Law concentration are able to take classes on Energy Law and students in the Faculty of Administrative Sciences can take the Environmental and Disaster Administration unit.
Courses Linked to Officially Recognized Credits
Other than formal study programs, several faculties at UI have conducted courses, separate from study programs, which are linked to officially recognized credits.
In March 2025, the Graduate School of Sustainable Development carried out a Planetary Carbon Certification Program (PCCP) in collaboration with the Center for Strategic and Global Studies (CSGS). PCCP 2025 is a training program focused on measuring, reporting, and verifying carbon emissions. The program is designed to equip participants with knowledge of carbon trading mechanisms, environmental regulations, and best practices in carbon emission mitigation. UI students who take up this certification are able to receive officially recognized credits according to their study program.
During 2025, UI also launched our Pre-University program under the Directorate for Digital Education Development. This program is aimed towards high school students and gap year graduates who want to experience studying at UI. Participating in these courses lead to official certificates that can be recognized as credits should the participant be admitted to UI in the future. Courses available in the Pre-University program relating to environmental science and sustainability include Plant Physiology and General Biology conducted by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
In addition to formal study programs and classes, UI also extends our commitment to educating the general public by offering free online classes and lectures that contribute to making sustainability education accessible to the wider community. The following are a few of these courses we provide:
| Faculty | Study Program | Course |
|---|---|---|
| Vocational Education Program | Tourism Business Management | Principles of Event Sustainability |
| Faculty of Engineering | Environmental Engineering | Prevention of Plastic Pollution |
| Faculty of Engineering | Energy Systems Engineering | Renewable Energy |
